The no-agency guide to building a website that books jobs, ranking on Google's map pack, and growing your local presence — the exact playbook we run for clients, free for you to run yourself.

Build a site that books jobs

Most local sites are brochures. A booking machine does three jobs: load fast, prove you're real, and make the next step obvious.

  1. One job per page, one primary call-to-action above the fold. If a visitor has to hunt for how to contact you, you've lost them.
  2. Speed is conversion. Compress every image, lazy-load below the fold, and keep your largest paint under 2.5s on mobile — slow sites bleed 1% of leads per 100ms.
  3. Lead with proof, not adjectives. Real photos of real work, named reviews, a number (jobs done, years, rating) — specifics beat 'professional & reliable'.
  4. Make contacting you frictionless: a sticky call/text button on mobile, a 2-3 field form (not 8), and an instant 'what happens next' so they know they'll hear back.

Get found on Google

80% of local discovery happens in the map pack — the three businesses above the regular results. You win it with a complete profile, reviews, and pages that match what people search.

  1. Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile: exact name/address/phone (identical everywhere online), correct categories, service areas, hours, and 10+ real photos.
  2. Reviews are the #1 local ranking lever. Ask every happy customer the day the job finishes, with a direct review link. Reply to all of them — Google watches engagement.
  3. Build pages that match real searches: one page per service ('kitchen remodel'), one per city you serve. Put the search term in the title, the H1, and the first sentence.
  4. Keep your name/address/phone identical across your site, GBP, and every directory — inconsistent 'NAP' is the most common reason local sites don't rank.

Grow your presence

Ranking gets you found once. Presence keeps you top-of-mind so you're the obvious call next time — and so referrals have somewhere to land.

  1. Capture every visitor you can: an email/SMS opt-in with a real reason to subscribe (a guide, a quote, a checklist) turns one-time traffic into a list you own.
  2. Show up where your customers already are: post finished jobs to Google, Instagram, and your GBP weekly. Consistency beats virality for local.
  3. Turn customers into a referral engine — a simple 'know someone who needs this?' ask after a 5-star job outperforms most paid ads, for free.
  4. Measure what matters: calls, texts, and booked jobs — not likes. If you can't see which channel drives booked work, you can't grow it.
