Why aren't my contractor leads closing?
Short answer
Usually it's speed, qualification, or fit. Leads go cold if you don't respond within minutes, if they were never qualified (wrong budget, wrong project, not the decision-maker), or if your follow-up stops after one call. A 30–48% close rate on qualified booked calls is normal; if you're far below that, the problem is lead quality and follow-up, not your pitch.
The three leaks
- 01Speed to lead — responding in five minutes vs. an hour can multiply your close rate. Most jobs go to whoever calls back first.
- 02Qualification — chasing tyre-kickers with no budget burns time and drops your average. Pre-qualify for budget, project type, timeline, and decision-maker before the call.
- 03Follow-up — most deals close on the second to fifth touch, but most contractors quit after the first.
This is exactly why we pre-qualify every lead before it hits your calendar — budget range, project type, timeline, decision-maker status — so the calls you take are the ones worth taking.
